My despatch No. 384 of the 14th. of August last
respecting opium.
I have received a note from the Chinese Government
Mated the 2nd. instant in which they express their high
appreciation of the cordial support which they have
received from His Majesty's Government.
The following is a substance of their reply to the

1. The Chinese Government agree to the proposal
of His Majesty's Government for an annual diminution
of export for a period of three years from January 1908
